Zion Lutheran Preschool
Providing excellence in Christian education and development for the young child.
Our goal is to provide a quality program that ensures each child the opportunity to learn and grow at their own rate and in their own way. We believe in a relaxed, informal atmosphere with special interest centers in the room that invite the children to explore, experiment, discover and develop in a way unique to them. Emphasis of the program is planned, purposeful play which allows the children to learn from hands-on experiences, thus enhancing pre-reading, pre-language and pre-math skills.
Classroom environment: The children are made to feel happy, relaxed, worthy and trustful. A great deal of attention is given to each child.
Curriculum: Zion preschool uses a Christian curriculum from Concordia Publishing House to teach Bible stories. Zoo-phonics is used to teach pre-reading and pre-writing, math, science and social studies activities. Music is also used throughout the day from beginning to end.
Motor Development: Activities are planned to help each child improve fine and gross motor coordination, spatial awareness, auditory and visual perception, creative movement and expression. Varied activities allow each child to progress at his or her own rate.
Classroom Information: Each preschool class uses a combination of large group, small group and individual instructional time to provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for creative, open-ended art, music, role play and gross motor skill development. Periodically, guest speakers, computer activities, movies, cooking and/or field trips may be added to enhance the curriculum. A low teacher-child ratio is maintained to enable the program to provide high quality learning experiences.
Enrollment Information: Enrollment is granted without discrimination in regard to sex, race, color, creed, national and ethnic origin. It is open to any child as long as the staff is able to meet the needs of the child. Although children are initially assigned to a group according to chronological age, if special needs are determined, the child will be placed developmentally to best meet the individual needs.
